What is “STEAME”?

STEAME is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Entrepreneurship. It is an approach to learning that integrates these six disciplines to help students develop critical thinking, innovation and problem-solving skills.

STEAME is aimed at providing practical tasks that connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. The “STEAME” project, implemented under the Erasmus+ programme, aims to provide students with a wide range of knowledge and skills essential for the future, while developing creativity, leadership skills and innovative thinking.

The “STEAME Teacher Academy” project is dedicated to empowering educators by providing comprehensive training in the proven STEAME methodologies through interactive workshops, engaging webinars, and practical training sessions.

Why is the STEAME system important?

In the dynamic and technology-driven world of the 21st century, students must be well prepared for the future. STEAME helps with this by teaching them not only academic knowledge, but also practical skills that they will need in various professional fields.

The benefits of STEAME for students:

  • Develops critical thinking and problem solving: Through project-based learning, students learn to analyze, communicate and seek solutions to real-world problems.
  • Encourages innovation and creativity: The combination of science, technology and the arts encourages children to think outside the box and create new ideas and products.
  • Improves teamwork and communication skills: Students work together on projects which teaches them cooperation, sharing ideas and working in a group.
  • Develops technological skills: Nowadays, technology is an integral part of almost every profession. STEAME provides students with knowledge in programming, robotics and digital technologies.
  • Preparing for the future: Many of the professions that will be most in demand in the future will require skills that STEAME develops – including in areas such as artificial intelligence, engineering and environmental sciences.

Throughout the first high school stage /8th – 10th grade/ the learning process is focused on the development of soft skills, delegation and execution of tasks, the ability to analyze consumers and the market, development of abstract thinking and successful presentation of a business idea. The project aims to develop products in diverse fields such as science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics and entrepreneurship. The combination of innovative subjects along with natural sciences and humanity subjects is interesting and proves to be extremely useful because it broadens the prospects for potential business ideas, and in addition, students study in detail not only the ethnographic areas of Bulgaria, but also the market and the specific needs.

How is STEAME integrated into the curriculum?

In CHEG “Prof. Ivan Apostolov” STEAME” is implemented gradually from 8th to 12th grade both through integrated lessons in which the various disciplines are combined in project-based learning, and through the addition of innovative interdisciplinary subjects to the curriculum. The basis of this educational process is laid with the study discipline “Personal and Interpersonal Development” in 8th grade, then follow the integrated subjects “Man and the Living Environment” and “Ethnography” in 9th grade, and later on is the actual development of student business ideas in 10th grade through the subjects “Entrepreneurship” and “Leadership and teamwork”.

What is the outcome of developing student business ideas?

As a culmination of the entire educational process in the 11th and 12th grades, students have the opportunity to transform their business ideas into educational companies, compete at the national and international level, and sign contracts with sponsors. In the project “STEAME” we partner with 11 other countries, which allows student teams to enrich their experience and ideas through exchange and communication with participants from different countries. All of these extracurricular learning project opportunities prepare students for the future and make them ambitious to pursue their ideas!

How can parents support their children?

Parents can help by encouraging their children to explore new technologies, participate in STEAME-related extracurricular activities, and support curiosity and interest in science disciplines. In addition, it is important that they provide an environment that stimulates creative thinking and the desire to experiment.
